A retail counter cannot wait for a network. XenPOS was engineered around that single constraint: every sale completes locally first, then reconciles with the cloud.

Engineering decisions

1. Local-first ledger. Transactions are written to an on-device store before any network call.
2. Deterministic sync. Conflicts resolve by transaction identity, never by timestamp guesswork.
3. Hardware tolerance. Thermal printers, barcode scanners and cash drawers are treated as optional peripherals, not requirements.

Results on the floor

Pilot retailers reported faster queue times and complete end-of-day reconciliation without manual counting. Stock movement, supplier pricing and multi-branch reporting are all included in the standard licence.
